US modern rock band from Denver, Colorado, formed in 2002 by Isaac Slade (b. May 1981, USA; vocals/piano), Joe King (guitar/vocals), Dave Welsh (guitar) and Ben Wysocki (drums). The quartet made their recording debut in summer 2003 with the independently released four-track EP, Movement. The lengthier Reason, which followed at the end of the year, quickly became one of the region's bestselling independent releases. A major label contract was not long in following, the quartet signing with Epic Records in 2004. Their full-length debut How To Save A Life (2005) was produced by Aaron Johnson and Mike Flynn, and crafted a sound awkwardly poised between traditional and alt rock. The sound proved popular on national radio, however, with both the title track and "Over My Head (Cable Car)" gaining plenty of airtime and reaching the US Top 10.
