Essentially Blink-182 without bass player/vocalist Mark Hoppus in attendance, Box Car Racer enjoyed minor chart success in their brief career. Joining Blink-182 members Tom DeLonge (b. Thomas Matthew DeLonge, 13 December 1975, USA; vocals/guitar) and Travis Barker (b. 14 November 1975, USA; drums) for the project was Anthony Celestino (bass) and David Kennedy (rhythm guitar; also a member of another California-based punk pop band, Over My Dead Body). Their original goal was to create music akin to the bands that got the quartet to pick up their instruments in the first place (namely Fugazi, the Minutemen, and Quicksand), but as evidenced by their self-titled 2002 debut for MCA Records, Box Car Racer was quite similar sounding to Blink-182. The quartet scored a popular US radio and MTV hit with the track "I Feel So".
