This all-female urban pop group emerged in 2006 from the third series of the popular MTV reality television show, Making The Band. The show, which was created by rap mogul P. Diddy, had previously spawned the boy bands O-Town and Bad Boy's Da Band aka Da Band. The final line-up of Danity Kane, chosen in season two of the ongoing series, comprised Aubrey Morgan O'Day (b. 11 February 1984, San Francisco, California, USA), D. Woods (b. Wanita Denise Woodgette, 7 July 1983, Springfield, Massachusetts, USA), Shannon Rae Bex (b. 22 March 1980, Bend, Oregon, USA), Dawn Angelique Richard (b. 5 August 1985, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) and Aundrea Aurora Garcia Fimbres (b. 29 June 1983, Upland, California, USA). A manga character drawn by group member Dawn Angelique Richard apparently inspired their unusual name. Season three of the series focused on the quintet as they were groomed for success, following them into the studio where they recorded their debut album with a stellar production cast, including Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Mario Winans and Scott Storch. The self-titled album sold heavily on its first day of release, and surprised many observers who had predicted the demise of the manufactured pop group by debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 in August 2006. The album also spawned the US hit singles "Show Stopper" and "Ride For You". Surprisingly, the group's popularity had not waned by the time they released a second album, with Welcome To The Dollhouse debuting at the top of the US charts in March 2008.
