Following in the footsteps of noise terrorists such as Melt Banana, the Boredoms, and the Dillinger Escape Plan, it is quite impressive that the all-encompassing racket that this US band creates is performed by only two people. Originally formed in 1995, Lightning Bolt comprises Brian Chippendale (drums/vocals) and Brian Gibson (bass), although early on, singer Hisham Bharoocha fronted the band (he left to sign on as drummer for the similarly styled Brooklyn, New York-based outfit, Black Dice). Signed to Load Records, Lightning Bolt's debut, First Record (aka Yellow Record), first appeared as a vinyl only release in 1997 (it was reissued several years later on CD with bonus tracks). Lightning Bolt followed in 1999, which was supported with a tour playing alongside Orchid, Locust, and Arab On Radar. Further album releases were issued during the early twenty-first century, as well as the home video/DVD, Power Of Salad.
