What's in a name? The group, formed in Melbourne, Australia, in the early 2000s, dubbed themselves "Jet" after the Wings anthem, named their first EP after a line from a T. Rex song, and their first album after a Bob Dylan lyric. Clearly this young band respects classic rock, and not surprisingly their music is full of the kind of old-school hooks, guitar-flailing, and indelible choruses that formed the bedrock of '60s and '70s FM music. Their un-ironic reverence for the classic sound landed them crucial opening spots on tours with the Rolling Stones and Oasis, which helped push their first two albums, released in 2003 and 2006 respectively, into the charts both in the U.S. and the U.K.
