Turn Me On
by Kevin Lyttle
b. Lescott Kevin Lyttle Coombs, 14 September 1976, Kingstown, St. Vincent, West Indies. Singer Lyttle is best known for "Turn Me On", one of the biggest soca hits of the new millennium and an astonishing crossover success in the mainstream pop charts. Lyttle began performing at the age of 14 as a dancer with his uncle's band. He also began performing in a vocal group with his high school friends. After completing an engineering course at college Lyttle found work as a customs officer, but his burning musical ambition led him to the recording studio where he recorded a number of tracks with local producer Adrian Bailey. One of these songs was the infectious "Turn Me On", and the track rapidly established itself as the carnival hit of 2001. The record began to spread like wildfire across the Caribbean and before too long Lyttle was working as a full-time performing artist throughout the region. "Turn Me On" then began to crossover to the European and North American markets, leading to a major label recording contract with Atlantic Records. The song burst into the UK Top 5 at the end of 2003 and continued its rise to global domination the following year when it reached the US Top 5. Lyttle, meanwhile, completed work on his debut album with producers Jeremy Harding, Troyton Rami and Salaam Remi. The self-titled collection was released in summer 2004.
