Yo No Soy Esa Mujer
by Paulina Rubio
Mexican-born Paulina Rubio started out as a child star in the 1980s with a vocal group called Timbiriche (where singer Thalia also got her start), and acted in some popular Mexican telenovelas before making her solo recording debut in 1992. For the rest of the '90s, she happily released lightweight pop albums and acted on TV. The turning point came in 1999, when Rubio adopted a slightly tougher, more rocking image and sound, exercising her strong vocals on dramatic, guitar-heavy ballads, dance songs, and rockers. By the early 2000s, she had conquered the U.S. charts, been nominated for a Grammy, and charmed critics and audiences alike with her infectious blend of Latin and rock styles.
